Watch the video below to see exactly how the pieces fit together from start to finish.
Materials
Kit Includes:
- 4 laser-cut frame pieces with slots on the same side
- 1 laser-cut frame piece with slots on opposite sides
- 5 support connectors
- 14 pieces of tissue paper
- Cardstock circles
- 1 glue stick
- 1 pair of scissors
- 1 light bulb socket cord with on/off switch
Building the Frame: Step 1
Using three of the four same-side-slot frame pieces, interlock them as demonstrated above.
Building the Frame: Step 2
Locate the frame piece with slots on opposite sides.
Insert it into the existing three-piece structure as pictured.
Building the Frame: Step 3
Locate the remaining same-side-slot frame piece and insert it into the structure as pictured.
Building the Frame: Step 4
Locate the 5 corner supports and insert them into the corners of the parol.
Attaching the Light Cable: Optional
Locate 1 pipe cleaner and the light cord. Use the pipe cleaner to secure the cord to one corner of the parol frame, positioning it so the light bulb hangs in the center of the parol.
⚠ WARNING:LED BULBS ONLY. Never use incandescent bulbs, open flames, candles, or other heat-producing light sources. Keep the parol away from heat and flammable materials. The user assumes all responsibility for the safe installation, operation, and use of the parol and lighting components. Decorating the Parol
Using no more than 8 pieces of tissue paper, scissors, and glue, decorate the frame of your parol however you’d like.
As you decorate, keep the holes at each corner exposed so you can easily attach the tails and hang your parol later.
Assembling the Tails: Step 1
Take 1 sheet of tissue paper and fold one corner diagonally to meet the opposite edge. Cut off the excess paper so that you have a perfect square when unfolded and a triangle when folded. Set the exess paper to the side to use later.
Keeping the paper folded, fold the triangle in half two more times, keeping the folds even and symmetrical. You should now have made 3 folds total.
Next, hold the folded triangle with the open edges pointing down and the folded edges pointing up. Fold the triangle in half one more time. This final fold will be asymmetrical, with the edges no longer lining up evenly.
Assembling the Tails: Step 2
Using the scissors, make alternating cuts along each side of the folded triangle, being careful not to cut all the way through to the opposite edge.
Assembling the Tails: Step 3
Unfold the tissue paper triangle to reveal the finished tail. Cut or carefully poke a small hole at the top of the tail.
Locate one circle piece and slide the tissue paper tail over it, aligning the holes. Take one pipe cleaner and thread it through the circle and tissue paper, then use it to securely attach the tail to the parol frame.
Repeat these steps to attach the second tail.
Hanging the Parol
Locate the last pipe cleaner. Thread it through the holes at the top corner of the parol, then secure the ends together to create a loop for hanging.
Finishing Touches: Covering Corners
Locate the excess tissue paper strips left over from making the tails. Fold each strip in half lengthwise (hot dog style).
Make small cuts approximately ½" apart along the folded edge to create a fringe.
Apply glue to one end of the strip and attach it to a corner of the parol. Wrap the strip around the corner, trim off any excess, and glue the other end in place to secure it.
Repeat for all remaining corners.
